SUMMARY:Box Tale Soup presents: 1984
DESCRIPTION:‘To the future or to the past\, to a time when thought is free: From the age of uniformity\, from the age of Big Brother\, from the age of doublethink… greetings!’ \nAward winning Box Tale Soup present a stunning new adaptation of Orwell’s dystopian classic. Known for their ingenious sets and slick storytelling\, Box Tale Soup’s unique puppetry becomes a striking metaphor for Orwell’s chilling vision of power and control. \nThe year is 1984\, perhaps – it is impossible to tell for certain. We are being watched\, Big Brother is everywhere\, truth changes daily\, and everyone conforms. But for Winston Smith\, insignificant cog in the Party’s vast machine\, this half-life is not enough. He dreams of freedom\, but is he the only one? Dreams can be deadly when rebellion begins with a thought.\nFeaturing the voices of Sophie Aldred & Joanna Lumley\, with Simon Russell Beale as the voice of Big Brother.

SUMMARY:Andy Zaltzman: The Zaltgeist - The Second Thwack
DESCRIPTION:Following a sell-out 2024/2025 national run\, Andy Zaltzman – host of The Bugle podcast and BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz\, statistician on Test Match Special\, and champion of Taskmaster series 18 – extends his hit tour into 2026. \nFully updated due to the UK and the world both steadfastly refusing to sort themselves out\, Andy assesses the state of renowned planet Earth\, its under-pressure current in-house millennium\, and its most famous and controversial species – the human race. \nWith politicians the world over striving to outdo each other in splattering their people with a cocktail of incompetence\, inexplicability and insatiable dishonesty\, Andy\, the universe’s leading and only 2-in-1 political-comedian-and-professional-cricket-statistician\, harnesses the combined 21st-century witchcraft of A.I. and his live audience. Between them\, they will concoct vaguely plausible answers to perennially troublesome questions such as What?\, Who?\, When?\, Where?\, and above all Why? \nWARNING: May feature talking penguin.

SUMMARY:The Big Chris Barber Band
DESCRIPTION:Chris Barber’s legacy to the British and European music scene started with a love of 1920s American jazz and blues. Together with Trumpeter\, Ken Colyer (who was one of the first British players to make it to New Orleans and play with the “Old Guard” of American Jazz Musicians.) \nChris’s band aimed to reproduce the New Orleans sound as authentically as they could. This became the beginning of the British “Trad Jazz” scene. After Ken and Chris parted company\, Chris and members of his band were also responsible for the introduction of many American blues artists to Britain in the 50s and 60s including Muddy Waters\, Sonny Terry\, Brownie McGhee and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. The 80s saw a collaboration with Dr John with the Chris Barber Jazz and Blues Band\, leading to Chris’ appearance at Glastonbury in 2010 as a guest with the Dr John Band. \nHe was involved in the foundation of the Reading Jazz & Blues festival and was also co-owner of The Marquee Club which saw the start of many of Britain’s most famous bands. Over the years the band has featured some of Britain’s best jazz and blues musicians including Lonnie Donegan\, the original Banjo/Guitar player who started the Skiffle craze playing during the intervals of the Jazz concerts. Pat Halcox (who replaced Ken Colyer on Trumpet) and Chris hold the record for the longest jazz partnership at 54 years. \nChris retired in 2019 after 70 years of touring continuously in Britain\, Europe\, and America and passed away in 2021 aged 90. \nComprising of 9 of Britain’s finest Jazz musicians\, his band are continuing his musical legacy\, performing a selection of classic Barber repertoire ranging from Trad through Blues to Ellington and Miles Davis. The programme features Barber classics such as Petite Fleur\, Bourbon Street Parade and When The Saints Go Marching In. Plus a journey through many of the other genres that the band has explored over the years.

SUMMARY:Palestine: Peace de Resistance
DESCRIPTION:Off the back of a sold-out London run and critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe\, Sami Abu Wardeh’s hit show blends resistance\, identity\, and ‘defiantly goofy’ comedy (★★★★ The Guardian). You can run from resistance\, but it will always catch up with you – as Sami Abu Wardeh finds out in his critically acclaimed show\, fresh from winning a Bestie Award and Mervyn Stutter’s Spirit of the Fringe at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. \nAs a Palestinian born in exile\, only to be displaced from his country of birth by yet another war\, Sami digs deep into his ties to resistance and Palestinian identity. What emerges is bold\, playful and utterly original: a show that asks whether resistance can be funny\, and answers with laughter. \nThis is comedy where silliness collides with survival. Expect an open call for mass civil disobedience\, equitable distribution of hand puppets\, and some of the silliest faces you’ll ever see.
