SUMMARY:Interpreting the landscape - historical workshop
DESCRIPTION:Full-day historical workshop with Anne Mason: explore East Anglia’s landscapes using maps\, photos\, and archives to uncover their history. \nOur landscapes ‘tell the story’ of how they have been managed in the past. Learn how to recognise and interpret the features that are the clues to its history. \nThe morning session will make use of maps\, photographs and archival evidence and in the afternoon we will look at Cley’s landscape using your newly-acquired skills. \nAnne Mason will be leading this full-day workshop and is a freelance heritage consultant specialising in developing and delivering projects that celebrate and conserve East Anglia’s heritage and wildlife.

SUMMARY:Norfolk saltmarsh - A fragile world: Annie Green-Armytage
DESCRIPTION:This exhibit shares the unexpected beauty of the Norfolk saltmarsh: its colour and form through the seasons\, and the diversity of life connected with it. The saltmarsh is an increasingly rare ecosystem\, fragile in the face of rising sea levels due to the climate crisis. This exhibition is an attempt to inspire the love and awe that it deserves\, and to hold hope and encourage action to prevent its unnecessary destruction. \nDue to the events programme\, exhibitions in the Simon Aspinall Centre may not always be accessible. Please check with the centre before travelling.

SUMMARY:Raptors of Norfolk - including owls
DESCRIPTION:Raptors\, or ‘birds of prey’ are one of the most charismatic and exciting groups of birds. \nTen species have bred in recent years in Norfolk\, with another four regular winter visitors and another 3 scarce but regular migrants\, it is an exciting county to see these birds. \nThis workshop will look at the past history and present status of these birds\, where they might be seen and how to recognise them. \nAt NWT Cley Marshes at this time of the season we are likely to see a range of these birds\, including – we would hope- marsh harriers entertaining with ‘sky-dancing’. \nThis will also introduce the majestic owl species found here too.

SUMMARY:Wilder Communities - Rooting together: a stroll around Happy Healthy Hethersett's community project
DESCRIPTION:In 2022\, volunteers from the Hethersett Environmental Action Team (HEAT) transformed a derelict skate park into a thriving\, wildlife-friendly community garden. The space now features raised beds\, fruit trees and welcoming seating areas. \nBuilding on this success\, a Community Tree Nursery was established in 2023 on the grounds of the Youth Club\, just across the road. Its aim is to grow trees from locally gathered seed\, strengthening biodiversity and preserving local provenance. On this tour learn how it all began\, how they got their projects off the ground and their plans for the future.
