SUMMARY:Acosta Danza Cuban Baroque
DESCRIPTION:In this new work from the celebrated Acosta Danza\, the lush artistry of the Baroque period intersects with the energy\, creativity and vibrancy of Cuban dance. Emerging from the 17th and 18th Centuries the creative movement was characterised by deep colour\, elaborate detail and intricate decoration. \nA brand-new premiere from Andonis Foniadakis journeys to the rhythmic heart of Baroque. Set to a live performance of Esteban Sallas’ Salve Regina\, the piece explores the classic chaconne looping structure that circles through phases of acceleration\, fracture and rebound. As the score shifts from Baroque lyricism toward Cuban drive\, Foniadakis showcases the fusion between memory and contemporary. \nClosing the programme is Goyo Montero’s powerful Chacona\, a piece that was originally created for the Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett during Montero’s 17-year tenure as director. Chacona is the final movement of Bach’s masterwork Partita No.2 in D Minor for violin\, accompanied in this performance by guitar and piano. Physically and musically demanding\, it requires total cohesion from the ensemble of 16 dancers. Classical in sound and contemporary in heart\, this is mesmerising piece not to be missed.

SUMMARY:Jeremy Bowen: Truth Under Fire
DESCRIPTION:Gaza. Ukraine. Syria. Sudan. Yemen. The world is facing more armed conflicts than at any point in decades\, and Jeremy Bowen has reported from the centre of nearly all of them. \nAs the BBC’s International Editor\, Jeremy has spent over 40 years covering more than 90 countries and 20 wars. From El Salvador in 1989 to the frontlines today\, he has interviewed world leaders\, documented war crimes\, been shot at\, and survived to tell the stories. \nBut something has changed. Israel prevents foreign journalists from entering Gaza. Russia controls the narrative in occupied Ukraine. Governments from Syria to Sudan restrict access\, manipulate information\, and discredit reporters who contradict official accounts. In the age of social media\, competing claims flood our screens\, but who is telling the truth? And how do we know? \nJeremy has spent his career fighting for access\, verifying what others want hidden\, and bearing witness when governments would rather the world look away. He will explain how the battle for truth is being waged\, why press freedom is collapsing in conflict zones\, and what it means when the first casualty of war is not just truth\, but those trying to report it. \nIn the second half\, audiences will have the chance to put their questions to a journalist who has made it his life’s work to get as close to the truth as possible—even when that truth is dangerous\, disputed\, or under fire. \nAn essential afternoon for anyone who wants to understand the world as it is\, not as we wish it to be.

SUMMARY:Songs of the Wild: Sam Lee live in Norwich
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening of music and storytelling as part of Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s centenary celebrations\, featuring the extraordinary folk singer Sam Lee\, with support from East Anglian duo Christina Alden & Alex Patterson. \nA Mercury Prize–nominated singer\, song collector and passionate conservationist\, Sam Lee has carved out a unique place in the British music scene. His work breathes new life into traditional songs\, blending ancient melodies with contemporary sounds and powerful storytelling rooted in landscape\, culture and the natural world. \nSam first came to prominence with his acclaimed debut album Ground Of Its Own\, shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize\, and has since continued to challenge and reimagine the boundaries of folk music through albums including The Fade In Time\, Old Wow and his most recent release songdreaming — named one of MOJO’s Top 10 Folk Albums of 2024 and winner of Best European Album at the 2024 Songlines Music Awards. \nBeyond the stage\, Sam is a widely respected voice for nature and culture. A co-founder of Music Declares Emergency and a champion of environmental causes\, his work often explores the deep connections between music\, wildlife and the landscapes we inhabit. His performances combine powerful singing with storytelling and moments of quiet reflection that invite audiences to listen differently — both to music and to the natural world. \nOpening the evening are Christina Alden & Alex Patterson\, multi-instrumentalists and songwriters from East Anglia whose music is rich with harmony\, delicate songwriting and exceptional musicianship. Their work has also featured on BBC Radio 4\, and their recordings have been streamed over a million times. \nSet within the beautiful surroundings of St Andrew’s Hall\, this special concert promises an evening of spellbinding music celebrating the landscapes\, wildlife and traditions that have inspired generations — and marking 100 years of Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s work for nature. \nDoors open – 7:00pm\nSupport – 7:45 – 8:25pm\nInterval – 8:25 – 8:45pm\nSam Lee – Set 1 – 8:45 – 9:30pm\nInterval – 9:30 – 9:50pm\nSam Lee – Set 2 – 9:50 – 10:40pm\nFinish – 10:40pm \nTicket income helps support Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s work protecting wildlife and wild places across the county as we celebrate our centenary year. SUMMARY:Lucy Beaumont: Bad at Quiz Shows\, Good with Weirdos
DESCRIPTION:Lucy Beaumont has had quite the year. She lost a contestant £79\,000 on The Wheel\, forgot to revise for Mastermind\, and generally confirmed she’s terrible at quiz shows. So she’s sticking with what she does best – this autumn\, she’s back on the road with a brand new show. \nFollowing the success of her sell-out debut UK tour\, Lucy returns with Bad at Quiz Shows\, Good with Weirdos – an evening packed with chaotic brilliance\, mayhem\, and beautifully surreal storytelling that’s made her one of the UK’s most beloved comedians. \nExpect tales of going into hiding after Celebrity Traitors\, creating cow udder couture on The Great British Sewing Bee\, and navigating life as someone for whom “normal” has never made much of an appearance. \nWhether you loved her on Taskmaster\, know her from her award-winning sitcom\, or just appreciate someone who turns everyday disasters into comedic gold\, this is the night out you need. Come for the chaos. Stay for the weirdos.
