DESCRIPTION:The Army Benevolent Fund’s Norfolk Committee invite you to join us for an evening of outstanding music performed by The Band of The Brigade of Gurkhas at Norwich Cathedral. This will be their first concert in East Anglia following their recent move to Merville Barracks. The ABF Norfolk Committee are delighted to host the Band for what will be a truly exceptional evening in aid of the Charity. \nEstablished in November 1859\, as part of an Indian Army Gurkha Regiment called the Sirmoor Rifle Regiment. The Band had 16 Bandsmen and one Naik (a leader) and soon became a part of Regimental life\, playing for parades\, polo matches\, dinners and troop entertainment at the Regimental base at Dehra Dun\, North East of Dehli. In the early days the Band travelled with the Regiment to other areas of India\, Malta\, Cyprus and Afghanistan. \nFormat \nThe concert will be performed in two halves with an interval halfway through. In the interval a limited selection of wine and soft drinks will be available. \nTickets \nCan either be purchased online or through the East Anglia Office. \nPrice: £25 per person including a complimentary interval drink. \nAccompanied children under 16 – Free. We revisit Tehran\, the schoolbus parties\, the wannabe prayer-caller and the secret acts of rebellion at the all-girls’ school. \n“Did I get used to oppression\, or is music my way of fighting?” \nNow Saria stands at a crossroads with her child. How does a woman who has experienced firsthand repression of her body and voice react as her child struggles with their own gender identity? This sexy\, camp\, pop-filled play highlights an often unheard perspective of the supportive parent\, unpacking the intersectional grey area of what life is like for women. \nSaria Callas was commissioned by Camden People’s Theatre’s Starting Blocks and was originally co-presented with A Play\, A Pie and A Pint. Devised with support from Oxford Playhouse as part of EVOLVE and public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Alas it is true; one of our oldest surviving alternative comics celebrates 40 years at the mic. \nSo\, here’s what he has done so far in numbers; performed comedy for 40 years\, won 8 awards for performing\, 4 for human rights work and 1 he invented for himself\, made 6 series of the Mark Thomas Comedy Product (Channel 4)\, written 6 books and 5 play scripts\, made 5 series of the Manifesto for Radio 4\, made 3 Dispatches for Channel 4\, sued the police (and won) 3 times\, curated and authored 2 art exhibitions with artist Tracey Moberly and had 1 Guinness World Record for holding 20 protests in 24 hours. \nIf that’s not enough\, he’s also walked 724km around the length of the Israel Wall in the West Bank\, been credited with changing the law on tax avoidance\, started a comedy club in Palestine with Dr Sam Beale and campaigned successfully for things like trade union recognition for cinema workers and getting multinationals to change their practices. You’re right\, there’s more\, but your attention is running out and we’re running out of space. So let’s just say he’s generally mucked about trying to have fun and upset the right people…which he is really\, really good at. \nSo basically expect a taster menu of government and personal mayhem\, jokes\, rants and a personal state of the nation broadcast as he tries to turn ‘what the f*ck is going on’ into a cogent hour of stand-up.

DESCRIPTION:In this new work from the celebrated Acosta Danza\, the lush artistry of the Baroque period intersects with the energy\, creativity and vibrancy of Cuban dance. Emerging from the 17th and 18th Centuries the creative movement was characterised by deep colour\, elaborate detail and intricate decoration. \nA brand-new premiere from Andonis Foniadakis journeys to the rhythmic heart of Baroque. Set to a live performance of Esteban Sallas’ Salve Regina\, the piece explores the classic chaconne looping structure that circles through phases of acceleration\, fracture and rebound. As the score shifts from Baroque lyricism toward Cuban drive\, Foniadakis showcases the fusion between memory and contemporary. \nClosing the programme is Goyo Montero’s powerful Chacona\, a piece that was originally created for the Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett during Montero’s 17-year tenure as director. Chacona is the final movement of Bach’s masterwork Partita No.2 in D Minor for violin\, accompanied in this performance by guitar and piano. Physically and musically demanding\, it requires total cohesion from the ensemble of 16 dancers. Classical in sound and contemporary in heart\, this is mesmerising piece not to be missed.
