SUMMARY:Ella Al-Shamahi: Becoming Human
DESCRIPTION:This is the story of Homo sapiens… us \nHost of BBC landmark show ‘Human’\, Ella Al-Shamahi\, palaeoanthropologist\, TV presenter\, explorer and stand-up presents a talk on our remarkable origin story. \nOnce upon a time we shared this planet with many species of human – it has been said that our world was a bit like Lord of the Rings. To start with we Homo sapiens weren’t that remarkable\, our origins were in fact rather humble and yet somehow today we are the only ones left. But we didn’t just survive against all odds\, we thrived\, innovated and travelled like no other species of human – becoming the explorer species who built cities\, iPhones and painted the Sistine Chapel. Our success was profound\, but how on Earth did it happen and at what cost? \nElla Al-Shamahi started studying evolution as a creationist and so she interweaves her own story demonstrating the power of tribalism not just in the past\, but also in the present. Expect a talk that draws on the latest discoveries\, heart\, humour and wild expedition stories. \nAl-Shamahi is a National Geographic Explorer specialising in searching for fossils in Palaeolithic caves in politically unstable\, hostile and disputed territories. She is the presenter of HUMAN\, a flagship BBC/PBS science series as well as other TV and radio shows. She is also author of a Times/Sunday Times book of the year ‘The Handshake: A Gripping History’

SUMMARY:An Afternoon with J M Dalgliesh
DESCRIPTION:An Afternoon with J M Dalgliesh Proudly in collaboration with Creative Sheringham \nOne of Britain’s most-read crime writers comes to Sheringham’s Little Theatre on Saturday 23rd May — and this is an event not to be missed. J M Dalgliesh is an internationally bestselling author whose atmospheric police procedurals have sold over 4.6 million copies worldwide\, been translated into multiple languages\, and topped the Amazon charts in the UK\, US\, Canada and Australia. Listed among the ten most-read authors on Amazon UK over the past decade\, his Hidden Norfolk\, Misty Isle and Dark Yorkshire series have accumulated over 450\,000 reader reviews — a testament to one of the most loyal and passionate readerships in British crime fiction. \nMarch 2026 brought major news: Transworld\, an imprint of Penguin Random House\, has acquired 28 of Jason’s titles along with eight new frontlist books — including an eagerly anticipated new series set in Orkney\, due in January 2027. In a further sign of the extraordinary ambition behind this deal\, Transworld has also acquired film and television rights to both the Misty Isle and the forthcoming Orkney series\, with his wider work already in development for the screen by an award-winning production team. \nBorn on the south coast of England\, Jason has lived across rural England and Scotland and now calls Norfolk home\, where he can often be found walking his oversized dog along the north Norfolk coast. Join us on 23rd May for what promises to be a warm\, witty and fascinating afternoon with a writer who\, in his own words\, is “only just getting started.” \nThe event will begin with a 45-minute discussion hosted on stage then will open to audience questions in an interactive Q&A session. The event will conclude with a book signing
