“The Politeness of Princes” – a talk by Imogen Corrigan, Medieval Historian.
We are delighted that Imogen Corrigan is able to join us, once again, when she will be examining the reality of manners and etiquette in the later medieval period. A far cry from the popular image of appalling table manners, medieval dining was a minefield of dos and dont’s, many of which were recorded in courtesie books (Teach yourself how to be a Gentleman texts). Because so many biblical stories involve dining – Balshazzar’s feast, the marriage at Cana and the Last Supper, to name but a few – a rich vein of artistic evidence also survives, bearing out what is written.
Tickets: £6.50 (cash on the door please). The church café will be open for refreshments.
